DiskFox Terms of Use and Licence
Version 2026-09-30 · Effective 30 September 2026
In short. DiskFox helps you understand and free up storage on your Mac. It works on your Mac, shows you what it would change, and removes nothing until you review it. Items normally go to the Trash; permanent deletion happens only when you choose it. Keep a backup. If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms takes away your legal rights.
1. About these terms
1.1 These terms are a legal agreement between you and us. DiskFox is a trading name of Krishan Assi, a sole trader whose business address is 19 Britton Avenue, St Albans, Hertfordshire AL3 5EJ, United Kingdom. In these terms "we", "us" and "our" mean that business, and "DiskFox" means the DiskFox application for Mac, its updates, and its documentation.
1.2 You accept these terms by choosing Agree and Continue when DiskFox first opens, or when you buy a licence. If you don't agree, don't use DiskFox. You can quit at the agreement screen without DiskFox reading or changing anything on your Mac.
1.3 Our Privacy Policy (Help ▸ Privacy Policy) explains what information we handle and why. It is information for you, not part of this contract.
1.4 Most of these terms apply to everyone. Where a section applies only to consumers (people acting for purposes outside their trade, business, craft or profession) or only to business users, it says so.
1.5 You can contact us at support@diskfox.app. Legal notices to us should go to support@diskfox.app.
2. Your licence to use DiskFox
2.1 What you may do. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use DiskFox on Mac computers that you own or control, for as long as these terms continue. A paid licence can be active on up to two Macs at a time. You can move it to another Mac by deactivating it on one you no longer use (DiskFox ▸ Settings ▸ Licence). During the free trial (section 8.1) you may use DiskFox on any Mac you own or control.
2.2 Business use. Businesses and self-employed people may use DiskFox under the same licence, on up to two Macs per licence. Section 11.5 applies to business use.
2.3 Pre-release versions. Beta, test and preview versions of DiskFox are licensed only for the period and the number of Macs we tell you when we give you access, and only for evaluating DiskFox and sending us feedback. Section 3 explains how they differ.
2.4 Ownership. DiskFox is licensed, not sold. We, or our licensors, own all intellectual property rights in DiskFox. Your licence doesn't give you any other rights in it. DiskFox includes third-party components used under their own licences; they are listed in DiskFox's Acknowledgements (Help ▸ Acknowledgements) and those licences apply to those components.
3. Pre-release (beta) versions
3.1 A pre-release version is still being developed. It may contain errors, be incomplete, behave differently from the final version, or stop working, and we may change or withdraw any feature.
3.2 Pre-release versions can move or delete files and apps when you ask them to, so use them with extra care: review each item before you remove it, and keep a current backup.
3.3 We supply pre-release versions free of charge. Where you haven't paid, some statutory remedies that depend on a price being paid may not apply, but our responsibility for damage caused by our failure to use reasonable care and skill (section 10) still does.
3.4 Feedback. If you send us ideas, reports or suggestions, you allow us to use them to improve DiskFox without paying you. Please don't send us anything confidential or anyone else's personal information.
4. How DiskFox works, and the choices it leaves to you
4.1 Measurements are estimates. DiskFox measures what macOS lets it read. Some locations can't be measured without permissions you choose whether to give, and some storage (for example parts of System Data) can't be attributed to a cause. Where DiskFox infers a cause rather than confirming it, it labels it "Likely" and shows how confident it is. Please treat sizes, causes and recommendations as information to help you decide, not as a guarantee.
4.2 Nothing is removed without your review. DiskFox never removes anything automatically. Recommendations stay proposals until you review the items affected and confirm.
4.3 What removal means.
- By default, items you remove are moved to your Trash. You can put them back from DiskFox's Activity view, or from the Trash in Finder, until the Trash is emptied.
- Some tools let you choose Delete Permanently instead. Permanent deletion can't be undone by DiskFox or by the Trash. DiskFox asks you to type DELETE before it permanently deletes anything.
- Some Xcode simulator items are removed with Xcode's own tool rather than moved to the Trash. Xcode can download them again. DiskFox asks you to confirm that you understand this first.
- Uninstalling an app moves it to the Trash, together with any support files you select. DiskFox can't guarantee it finds every file an app created, and some apps provide their own uninstaller, which DiskFox recommends when it finds signs that one is needed.
4.4 Guided steps are yours to carry out. For some items (for example Apple Intelligence model files that macOS protects), DiskFox shows step-by-step guidance instead of removing anything itself. These procedures are not documented or supported by Apple, can stop working after a macOS update, and may involve starting your Mac in macOS Recovery. DiskFox never runs these steps for you. Follow them only if you are comfortable doing so, keep a backup, and stop if anything you see differs from the guidance.
4.5 The administrator helper. Some apps can only be moved to the Trash by an administrator. If you choose to turn on DiskFox's administrator helper, macOS asks an administrator to approve it. It can only move an app you have confirmed from an Applications folder to your Trash. You can turn it off at any time in DiskFox's Settings or in System Settings.
4.6 Keep a backup. DiskFox is designed to make storage changes reviewable and, by default, reversible. Even so, you should keep a current backup (for example with Time Machine) before removing anything you might need. Keeping a backup doesn't reduce our responsibility under sections 10 and 11; it protects you if you change your mind or something unexpected happens.
5. Your Mac, permissions and compatibility
5.1 DiskFox requires macOS 14 or later, on a Mac with Apple silicon or an Intel processor. Some features depend on a newer version of macOS, or on hardware or settings (for example, checking whether Apple Intelligence is available requires macOS 26 or later). DiskFox tells you when a feature isn't available on your Mac.
5.2 Extra permissions, such as Full Disk Access, notifications or opening at login, are optional. DiskFox explains what each one allows before you turn it on, and you can turn each one off in System Settings.
5.3 Only use DiskFox on a Mac you own, or on a Mac where you have permission from its owner or administrator to measure storage and remove files and apps. If a Mac is managed by an employer or school, their rules may not allow this.
6. Acceptable use
You must not:
- use DiskFox to access, move or delete files or apps that you have no right to access, move or delete, or on a computer you aren't authorised to manage;
- try to get around the safeguards in DiskFox, including its review steps, its confirmations and the restrictions on its administrator helper, or use the helper for anything other than moving an app you have confirmed to the Trash;
- copy, sell, rent, lend, sublicense or distribute DiskFox, or make it available to others over a network, except as these terms allow;
- remove or change any copyright or other notice in DiskFox;
- attack, overload or interfere with our update service or other systems, or try to gain unauthorised access to them; or
- use DiskFox in breach of the law.
You may reverse engineer or decompile DiskFox only to the extent the law allows you to do so despite this contract (for example to achieve interoperability under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988).
7. Updates
7.1 DiskFox can check for updates. Where this build supports it, you choose whether it checks automatically, and you can check manually from the DiskFox menu. Each update is checked against our signature before it is installed. The Privacy Policy explains what an update check sends.
7.2 We may provide updates to fix problems, improve security, keep DiskFox working with new versions of macOS, or change features. If you are a consumer, updates won't take away the main features you paid for, and we won't charge you for updates we need to provide to keep DiskFox as described. Your licence includes every update to version 1 of DiskFox at no extra cost. If we release a new major version (version 2 or later), we'll say before you buy it whether it's a paid upgrade, and the version you already have keeps working under your licence.
7.3 You don't have to install updates, but if you don't, problems that an update would fix may continue. This doesn't affect your legal rights.
8. Free trial and buying DiskFox
8.1 Free trial. When you first open DiskFox, you can choose to start a free 14-day trial, buy a licence, or enter a licence key you already have. The trial starts only when you choose it, lasts 14 days, can be started once, and includes every feature. When it ends, DiskFox asks you to buy a licence before you can keep using it. Nothing on your Mac changes when the trial ends, and anything you moved to the Trash stays there. The trial needs no account or payment details, and it never turns into a paid purchase.
8.2 Who sells DiskFox. Licences are sold by our reseller, Polar (polar.sh), which acts as merchant of record. That means Polar is the seller in your purchase: it takes your payment, charges any VAT or sales tax, and sends your receipt. We supply DiskFox and your licence, and we remain responsible for DiskFox itself under these terms.
8.3 Price. A licence is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. The checkout shows the total you pay, including any VAT or sales tax, before you pay.
8.4 When the contract is made. The contract for your licence is formed when Polar confirms your order by email. That email contains your licence key. We'll also make these terms and the information about your right to cancel available to you in a durable form, such as an email.
8.5 Activating your licence. You activate a licence by entering its key in DiskFox (DiskFox ▸ Settings ▸ Licence). Activation, and occasional checks that the licence is still valid, connect to Polar. The Privacy Policy explains what is sent.
8.6 If we make an obvious error in a price, we'll contact you before your order is accepted, or cancel it and refund you in full.
9. Changing your mind
9.1 If you buy a licence, you can cancel within 14 days of the contract being made, for any reason, and get a full refund. This applies even if you have already downloaded, activated or used DiskFox, which goes further than the law requires.
9.2 Our Refunds and Cancellations policy (Help ▸ Refunds and Cancellations) explains how to cancel and how refunds are made. It doesn't affect your rights if DiskFox is faulty or not as described (section 10).
10. If there's a problem with DiskFox (consumers)
10.1 If you are a consumer, you have legal rights in relation to DiskFox. In summary, under the Consumer Rights Act 2015:
- digital content you pay for must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. If it isn't, you can ask us to repair or replace it. If that isn't possible, isn't done within a reasonable time or without significant inconvenience, you may be entitled to a price reduction, which can be a full refund;
- if digital content we supply damages your device or other digital content, and that happened because we didn't use reasonable care and skill, we will either repair the damage or compensate you.
10.2 For more detailed information on your rights, contact your local Citizens Advice or visit citizensadvice.org.uk.
10.3 Nothing in these terms affects these rights.
11. Our responsibility for loss or damage
11.1 If you are a consumer. We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. Loss or damage is foreseeable if it is obvious that it will happen or if, when the contract was made, both we and you knew it might happen.
11.2 We are not responsible for loss or damage that is not foreseeable, or that is caused by something other than our breach or our failure to use reasonable care and skill. For example, we aren't responsible if you choose to permanently delete a file after DiskFox correctly identified it and told you the deletion couldn't be undone, or if you carry out a guided step differently from the guidance.
11.3 We supply DiskFox to consumers for domestic and private use. If you use it for business purposes under a personal licence, we have no responsibility to you for loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption or loss of business opportunity.
11.4 What we never exclude. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for breach of your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (including your rights about damage to your device or digital content), or for anything else that can't lawfully be excluded or limited.
11.5 If you use DiskFox for business. If you are a business customer, we aren't responsible for loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption, loss of business opportunity, or any indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you in connection with DiskFox is limited to the price you paid for your licence. This doesn't limit anything listed in section 11.4.
12. Ending the licence
12.1 You can stop using DiskFox at any time by quitting it and moving it to the Trash. DiskFox's history stays on your Mac until you erase it (Settings ▸ Privacy & Access ▸ Advanced ▸ Erase Local History) or delete it.
12.2 We may end your licence by telling you in writing if you seriously break these terms, for example by distributing copies of DiskFox. Where the breach can be put right, we'll first give you a reasonable opportunity to do so. A pre-release licence also ends when the pre-release period we told you about ends.
12.3 When your licence ends, you must stop using DiskFox and remove it from your Macs. Sections that by their nature should continue (for example sections 10, 11 and 16) continue after it ends.
13. Changes to these terms
13.1 We may change these terms to reflect changes in the law, in how DiskFox works, or in how we sell it. We'll show the version and date at the top.
13.2 New terms apply to new versions of DiskFox. If an update comes with changed terms, DiskFox will ask you to accept them before you use the updated version. If you don't accept them, you may keep using the version you already have under the terms you accepted for it. If a change would significantly disadvantage you and you bought a licence recently, contact us and we'll discuss a refund.
14. Trademarks
Apple, Mac, macOS, Siri, Time Machine and Apple Intelligence are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries. DiskFox is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Apple.
15. Other important terms
15.1 We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another organisation. We'll tell you if we do, and we'll make sure the transfer won't affect your rights under these terms.
15.2 Your licence is personal to you. You can't sell or give it to someone else, but you can move it between your own Macs as described in section 2.1.
15.3 This contract is between you and us. No other person has any right to enforce any of its terms.
15.4 Each section of these terms operates separately. If a court decides that any part is unlawful, the rest remains in full force.
15.5 If we don't insist immediately that you do something you're required to do, or we delay taking steps against you, that doesn't mean we can't do so later.
16. Complaints, governing law and courts
16.1 If you have a problem, please contact us at support@diskfox.app first. We'll acknowledge your complaint within 5 working days and aim to resolve it within 14 days. We don't currently use an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) provider.
16.2 These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, you can bring legal proceedings about these terms in the courts of England and Wales; if you live in Scotland you can also bring them in Scotland, and if you live in Northern Ireland you can also bring them in Northern Ireland.
16.3 If you are a consumer living outside the United Kingdom, you also keep any protection given to you by the mandatory laws of the country where you live.
